I cannot express how disgusted I am by these “types” of bisexuality. None of them allow for someone who simply does not use gender as a factor when choosing partners. And in fact most of these could be created/influenced by the constant pressure of society on men to be straight and on women to perform for the male gaze. It also doesn’t allow for orientation to change over time, or the distinction between orientation (what ones desires would be for absent any other societal factors) and performativity (what you actually tend to do in the context of society).
I did not know this. However, this J.R. Little could’ve skipped the last type, it’s not fair towards the gay community. And I, myself wouldn’t classify some of these as types of bisexuality, but that’s my opinion. I “love” how some people always find new ways to label people.
As a teen I was…
I’m having a bit of trouble getting reblogs to post to one tumblr versus another (I’ve got two that I manage from this login). So if anyone sees weird notifications appearing and disappearing from heyprolife and/or noOneTrueWay that’s why.
Grr.
[Ok, so this isn’t directly related to “No One True Way”, but I don’t have anyplace better to put it at the moment, so here you go.]
Corporate personhood is a horrible thing. See, corporations are, by definition, sociopathic; whereas biological lifeforms survive by reproducing, corporations survive by making profit. They are actually hindered by having morals as we know them; being nice to people, treating resources as things to be preserved rather than plundered, telling the truth, all these things actually get in the way of their Prime Directive: profit.
By giving corporations legal personhood, we have put sociopaths in charge of our society. How can entities be given the rights of personhood when they are intrinsically incapable of handling its responsibilities?
I started this tumblr as a way to expand and refine my central thesis that “there is no one true way, and to link it to all the issues I believe it’s the key to understanding.
I’ve noticed, though, that slogans/theses that contain a negative central idea are not as effective as ones that are positive; in other words, “X is Y” is better than “X is not Y” or “There is no Y.” The negative framings leave you focused on the Y, which is suboptimal in terms of spreading your idea. Saying “X is not Y” is a start, just to get people to start separating two concepts which have always been intertwined in their heads, but then you need to move on, forget about Y, obliterate it, subsume it with the more progressive concept of X.
That’s enough meta. Let’s look at “There is no one true way.” How to reframe this positively? “There are many true ways”? That’s better, but still sets itself up in unspoken opposition to the concept of a single path. What I want is to communicate the idea that each person’s path is as unique as they are, and to even conceive of telling everyone to go down one path is absurd.
But then I look back at the world and despair; maybe we still need to work harder on the concept of “NO one true way.”

If I could drum one thing, just one thing, into the head of every person on earth, it would be this: THERE IS NO ONE TRUE WAY. No one true religion, no one true philosophy, no one true relationship style, body size, sexual technique, computer operating system, educational method, pepper-to-garlic ratio. There might be one true way for you, personally and individually, but that’s as subject to change as you are. To say and act otherwise is to cram yourself into a little box that doesn’t fit, making yourself and everyone around you miserable.
We’re all trying to get to the same place.
